I Know What It Means to Have a Dream—but Not Yet Have the Tools to Reach It
Mercy Institute Career Development for Women is deeply personal to me because I know what it feels like to aspire to something greater while not having the education, skills, resources, or opportunities needed to get there.
As a young woman, I had dreams for my future. I wanted to become an executive secretary and business professional, and I began preparing for that career in high school. But at the age of 18, my plans were interrupted when I entered an abusive relationship that prevented me from working or continuing my education.
When I was finally able to rebuild my life, I was a young mother with limited resources and few opportunities. My first job was as a hotel maid. I was grateful to be working, but deep within me, I knew I wanted more for my life. The desire was there, but I did not yet have the training, credentials, or professional skills to access the opportunities I desired.
That experience has never left me.
My turning point came when I received career training and support through the National Organization for Women. I was taught practical skills such as résumé writing, interviewing, and how to navigate the professional workplace. Someone gave me access to the knowledge and tools I was missing, and those tools helped open doors that eventually led to a career with the New York City Department of Education spanning more than 38 years.
My journey taught me that having ambition is not always enough. A woman can have tremendous potential, a powerful vision, and a sincere desire to succeed, yet still need someone to teach her what she does not know, help her develop the skills she has not had an opportunity to learn, and show her how to access opportunities that may seem beyond her reach.
That is why I founded Mercy Institute Career Development for Women.
I want women to have access to the kind of guidance that changed the direction of my own life. Through career development, entrepreneur coaching, mentorship, education, and practical support, Mercy Institute helps women bridge the gap between where they are and where they aspire to be.
I know what it is like to have a dream and not know how to reach it. My passion is helping women gain the knowledge, skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to turn their aspirations into achievable goals and their visions into sustainable futures.
Because sometimes a woman does not need a new dream—she needs the tools and opportunity to pursue the one she already has.
Our Board Members
Tracey Meek
Board Member
Tracey Meek brings to the Board of Directors of Mercy Institute Career Development for Women more than 20 years of experience in human resources, talent acquisition, workforce development, and organizational leadership. Her professional expertise and passion for connecting individuals with meaningful career opportunities strongly align with Mercy Institute’s commitment to helping women develop their skills, advance professionally, and achieve sustainable career success.
Tracey began her career as a Human Resources Generalist before transitioning into talent acquisition, where she has spent the past 15 years developing innovative recruitment strategies and building high-performing teams. Since 2016, she has served with the City of Detroit and currently holds the position of Talent Acquisition General Manager, leading a team of more than 20 professionals responsible for advancing the City’s recruitment and talent strategies.
Throughout her career, Tracey has championed equitable access to employment and professional advancement. She has developed strategies to expand access to diverse, qualified talent while creating fair, transparent, and effective processes that enable employees to pursue promotional and leadership opportunities. Her leadership philosophy is grounded in innovation, continuous improvement, and creating pathways that allow individuals to maximize their talents and potential.
Tracey holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwood University and a Master’s degree in Education, Training and Development from Central Michigan University. She has also been an active member of the National Council of Negro Women – Detroit Section for more than a decade and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
As a board member of Mercy Institute Career Development for Women, Tracey contributes extensive expertise in talent development, recruitment strategy, workforce advancement, and organizational leadership. Her commitment to helping people connect their abilities and aspirations with meaningful opportunities supports Mercy Institute’s mission to equip women with the skills, mentorship, resources, and confidence needed to build sustainable careers, strengthen their leadership capacity, and create brighter futures.
Rosalind Pinder
Board Member
Rosalind Pinder brings to the Board of Directors of Mercy Institute Career Development for Women a deep commitment to compassion, service, and community empowerment. She is the founder of Circle of Hearts, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing dignity, encouragement, and meaningful support to individuals and families in need.
Raised in Miami, Florida, Rosalind developed an early appreciation for the transformative power of kindness and service. For more than 30 years, she has served others through her work in hospital care and funeral services, supporting individuals and families during some of life's most vulnerable and challenging moments. These experiences have strengthened her passion for advocacy, healing, and helping others navigate difficult circumstances with dignity and hope.
As a wife, mother of three, and grandmother of six, Rosalind understands the importance of strong families, supportive communities, and opportunities that enable individuals to thrive. Her own journey of resilience has inspired her commitment to ensuring that others feel seen, valued, supported, and empowered to move forward.
As a board member of Mercy Institute Career Development for Women, Rosalind brings her heart for service, nonprofit leadership experience, and dedication to strengthening women and communities. Her values align closely with Mercy Institute's mission to equip women with the skills, mentorship, resources, and encouragement needed to pursue meaningful careers, build sustainable organizations and businesses, and create brighter futures for themselves, their families, and their communities.
